1. Overview of the Production Process of Soft-Pack Lithium Batteries
The production process of soft-pack lithium batteries is complex and meticulous, encompassing several key steps such as electrode preparation, stacking/rolling, packaging (forming and sealing of aluminum-plastic film), liquid injection, formation, and grading. Among these, the packaging step is particularly critical as it directly affects the battery's sealability, safety, and service life. The pouching machine is the core device in this step, playing a decisive role in the fixation of battery tabs, insulation treatment, and overall sealability.
2. Pouching Machine: The "Invisible Shield" for Lithium Battery Safety
- High-Precision Temperature Control System: The heat-sealing temperature of the pouching machine needs to be precisely controlled between 150°C and 200°C, with a fluctuation range of less than ±1°C. This precise temperature control ensures the perfect melt adhesion of the pouching material and the aluminum-plastic film, preventing the carbonization of the adhesive layer and ensuring the reliability of the seal.
- Multi-Station Collaborative Design: To improve production efficiency, modern pouching machines generally adopt a multi-station parallel operation mode, such as simultaneous top and side sealing. Some machines also integrate a vision inspection system to monitor the uniformity of the adhesive layer and the integrity of the seal in real-time, ensuring the consistency and yield of the batteries.
- Adaptive Pressure Control: For different types of soft-pack batteries, the pouching machine can dynamically adjust the pressing force to ensure uniform adhesive layer thickness and prevent damage to the aluminum-plastic film, thereby enhancing the battery's sealability and long-term reliability.
- Material Compatibility and Environmental Friendliness: With the increasing awareness of environmental protection, pouching machines are gradually adapting to low-volatile solvent-free adhesives, such as UV-curing glue. The quick curing through UV irradiation not only reduces energy consumption and pollution but also improves production efficiency.
3. Pouching Machine: The "Performance Booster" for Lithium Batteries
- Safety Assurance: In the failure modes of soft-pack batteries, electrolyte leakage and tab short-circuit are the two main risks. The pouching machine effectively isolates the electrolyte from the outside world by precisely controlling the adhesive layer thickness and seal width, significantly reducing the battery's moisture permeability and enhancing its safety performance.
- Production Efficiency Optimization: Compared with traditional manual pouching, the automated pouching machine reduces the single battery processing time to less than 5 seconds. By linking with the stacking machine and liquid injection machine, it achieves full-line automation, significantly improving production efficiency and yield.
4. Industry Development Trends and Challenges
With the continuous increase in battery energy density, pouching technology is also facing new requirements and challenges. The application of ultra-thin adhesive layer technology, high-temperature materials, and intelligent upgrades are becoming new directions for the development of pouching machine technology. However, along with the technological upgrades, there are also a series of challenges, such as the adhesive layer cracking caused by the difference in the thermal expansion coefficient of tab materials, and the gap between the precision and service life of core components in the domestication process of equipment and the international leading level.
